Mike Lenz
Archbishop Hoban High School
Higway 61
Mike has been teaching private lessons for acoustic and electric guitar, harmonica, banjo, mandolin, bass guitar, slide & lap steel, as well as music theory & improvisation for over 20 years. He uses a personal approach, designing lessons to help students learn the styles and techniques they are interested in to meet their personal goals. That could mean learning to read music and in-depth music theory for jazz or classical guitar, playing by ear, learning songs from recordings or just learning basic chords to back up singing. Mike's most notable student, Dan Auerbach of the Black Keys.
He is influenced by everything from Delta and Piedmont blues artists such as Robert Johnson, Charley Patton, Blind Blake and Blind Boy Fuller to the
Memphis blues, jug band stomps and rags of the 20’s and 30’s to classic 50’s and 60’s electric Chicago blues of Muddy Waters, Jimmy Reed and Howlin’ Wolf to the juke joint boogies of Hound Dog Taylor and North Mississippi blues, as well as a bit of raw rock. The Mike Lenz Band is a NE Ohio favorite and melds these early influences into a powerful electric show that features Jason Edwards on drums and Dennis Meyers on bass.Mike also works as a duo with Peggy Coyle, tours with The David Mayfield Parade and occasionally plays with other NE Ohio bands and with The Mostly Blues Band.
