Matthew DeRubertis

Bachelor of Music in Jazz Studies,
University of Akron

Matthew has been teaching privately and at various Akron music studios since 2007. He enjoys drawing on his diverse array of musical experiences to specialize his instruction to students looking for help in a specific area, as well as working with younger students and beginners on electric bass, upright bass, and acoustic/electric guitars. He is also the adjunct professor of electric bass at Kent State University

Stark Campus.

Matthew began playing the bass guitar at age 14. Upon graduating Summa Cum Laude with a Jazz Studies degree at The University of Akron in 2011, Matthew is spreading his reach into as many musical situations as possible.

Being experienced in jazz, many styles of rock, classical, funk, latin, R&B, and experimental fringe genres, he is a very versatile full time working bassist. His passion for original music is undeniable as he plays electric and upright bass in 5 original bands: Dave Hammer’s Power Supply (blues/rock), The Admirables (funk/soul), Ahi - nama (salsa, latin jazz), Moustache Yourself (1930’s Gypsy Jazz), and he is the bassist for art rock singer Morgan MeCaskey. He has recently taken up learning to play the Sitar, a popular instrument in North Indian Classical Music.
