Alex Hoyt

Alex Hoyt received his Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance (Jazz Studies) from the University of Akron in 2005, where he studied with Dan Wall and Rock Wehrmann. He also co-founded the University of Akron Afro-Cuban Jazz combo during his time at the University. Since receiving his degree, he has played aggressively in both the Northeastern Ohio and Miami, Florida areas.
Alex has extensive experience playing a variety of styles, most notably latin jazz and salsa. While in Miami, he collaborated with Grammy Award winner Sammy Figueroa to create "Sally's Tomato", a tribute to Cal Tjader, the great jazz vibraphonist. In the Latin community, he has worked with Tito Allen, Andy Montañez, Luisito Carrion, Lalo Rodriguez, Kambalache Negro,
and Tony Succar. He also worked with many solo rock artists on their projects both on stage and in the studio, including Griffin Anthony, Phil Jacobson, Jean Rodriguez, and Robert Elias.
Alex has recently moved back to the Northeast Ohio area in order to found a new latin jazz/salsa project, Ahi-Nama, with some of NE Ohio's most talented musicians (including fellow teachers Dan Kshywonis and Matt DeRubertis).
