The Hudson School of Music is thrilled to welcome Dr. William and Mrs. Judith Guegold to host our OMEA Solo & Ensemble Master Class. The Guegolds are experienced music educators and OMEA adjudicators.
Judith Guegold has degrees from Capital University and The University of Akron. She is a retired successful music educator with over 30 years of experience, the majority at Crestwood Middle School in Mantua. As a middle school band director and private teacher she has prepared hundreds of students for solo and ensemble adjudicated events with over 90% receiving superior ratings. She is a past treasurer of the Ohio ASBDA and was president of OMEA District 6.
William Guegold is a professor emeritus from The University of Akron School of Music. He retired in the fall of 2012 with over 35 years in the profession and is a graduate of Capital University and Kent State. Dr. Guegold has served as a large ensemble and solo and ensemble adjudicator for 31 years and was a high school band director for 14 years earlier in his career. He is a past president of the Ohio Music Education Association and is currently the North Central Division President of the National Association for Music Education.
The class will provide students and teachers with the student performance preparation process for entering solo and ensemble festivals as well as describe what the adjudicators are listening for from the performer(s). Several students will perform solos for the Guegold's and they will critique the performances providing the viewpoint of the teacher and adjudicator as well as take questions from the audience.
